Turkey sandwiches, football … and car-shopping?
Thanksgiving and the next few days after are known for being peak time for college football rivalries, leftover turkey sandwiches and, apparently, car shopping.
In fact, Black Friday was ranked by iSeeCars.com as the best time to find a deal on a used car and Thanksgiving wasn’t far behind at No. 3.
Not to mention, November was ranked as the best month to find a used-car deal and December was second, according to the same data.
iSeeCars defines a “deal” as savings of at least 5 percent. Black Friday typically has 33.1 percent more of these “deals” that an average day and Thanksgiving has 30.6 percent more.
November has 26.9 percent more used-car deals than average, with December having 23.5 percent more.
Cyber Monday is all gravy, baby
At the end of November, and smack dab between Thanksgiving and December this year, is what has been dubbed Cyber Monday, which is the online shopping push that occurs the Monday after Thanksgiving.
Think Black Friday, but on the Web.
When asked what items they planned to shop for on Cyber Monday in a Jumpstart Automotive Media survey, 13.6 percent plan to shop for a car.
More specifically, 22 percent of men said they would shop for a car, and 9 percent of women said the same.
Two-fifths of Jumpstart’s respondents perceive there are no special deals on Cyber Monday; however, more than a quarter (26 percent) still think it’s smart to shop for a car on Cyber Monday.
Jumpstart found that a deal of at least $1,000 off sticker price would attract 47 percent of men. A third of men would be pulled in by deals of at least $1,500 off.
Meanwhile, 35 percent of women said they would be attracted to deals of at least $500 off; a quarter would enticed by deals at least $1,000 off.
SUVs/CUVs were the vehicle of choice for both men and women, as 33 percent of men said they would be most interested in shopping for one of these on Cyber Monday and 35 percent of women said the same.
For women, entry-level/small cars were second (19 percent); for men, it was luxury cars (19 percent).
Given those stats, car shoppers who happen to be out shopping on Black Friday, too, may be in luck, given the deals spotted by Edmunds.com.
