If a shopper at your dealership wants to lease a vehicle, how close will the monthly payment be to what he or she was paying before the recession hit? According to data from Swapalease.com, the difference could be striking.

The company shed some more light on this by comparing the 2006 and 2012 average monthly leasing payments of 40 different models.

Of all the vehicles included in the data, the greatest monthly payment increase during this time frame, percentage-wise, was for the Buick Lacrosse. Its lease payment went from $272 to $438, a 61-percent increase.

“The Lacrosse has become a more popular vehicle in the Swapalease.com marketplace, with increased levels of listings and takeover demand,” the site noted.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Toyota Camry’s payment dropped the most. Specifically, it dipped 27.7 percent, coming in at $326 in 2012.

Swapalease suggested this points to the “carmaker’s aggressiveness in promoting lease deals.”

When moving over to the most popular trucks, the Chevrolet Tahoe had the greatest increase at 42.1 percent, as its payment climbed from $428 to $608. Conversely, the Ford Explorer dropped 12.6 percent to $493.
