DETROIT — AOL Autos recently published a list of the market's hottest crossovers for March, and ranking at No. 1 on this list of 15 bestsellers was the Toyota RAV4, whose sales climbed 116.7 percent year-over-year to 25,781 units during the month.

"The Toyota RAV4 is one of the compact SUVs that created the class," AOL Autos noted. "It has become bigger in recent years and includes more outstanding features that make it an even more useful family vehicle"

Toyota was well-represented, as three of its models made the list: the RAV4 at No. 1, the Toyota Highlander at No. 5 and the Lexus RX in 12th.

General Motors, however, led the way with four vehicles in the rankings, as it was represented by the Chevrolet Equinox at No. 4, Chevrolet Traverse at No. 8, the GMC Arcadia at No. 11 and the GMC Terrain in 14th.

"The Chevrolet Equinox is a competitively priced midsized SUV that offers exceptional versatility, distinctive design and high efficiency," the site said of the Equinox, GM's top-selling CUV in March.

Ford and Nissan each had two make the list, while Honda, Hyundai, Subaru and Chrysler (Dodge) placed one vehicle on the list.
