FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — AutoNation enjoyed across-the-board increases in retail new-vehicle unit sales in June as compared to the same month last year.

The company indicated just before the July 4 holiday that it moved 16,153 new units last month, which it calculated to be a 13-percent rise from the year-ago sales performance.

Breaking the figures down by vehicle type, AutoNation shared these June retail sales figures:

—4,805 domestic vehicles, which is a 23-percent jump versus June 2009.

—8,328 import units, which represents a gain of 4 percent from last year.

—3,020 premium luxury models, which totaled a 25-percent increase from June 2009.

"The information provided is based on sales reports provided by our stores to the applicable automotive manufacturers on a continuing operations basis," company executives explained.

"These reports are prepared based on the standards established by the applicable automotive manufacturers, which differ from GAAP revenue recognition and other requirements and are based on the time periods set by the automotive manufacturers for reporting monthly sales — which generally differ from the calendar month," they continued.

"As a result, our operating results calculated and presented in accordance with GAAP, including our new-vehicle unit sales, may differ materially from any results expressed or implied by the information provided in our monthly sales reports and summarized in this release and future releases," they added.

AutoNation went on about more stipulations concerning how to gauge any future readings about its sales performances.

"In addition, new-vehicle unit sales are subject to seasonal trends. Consequently, new-vehicle unit sales for a particular month are not necessarily indicative of results to be expected for a full quarter or year," the company emphasized.
