Edmunds Now Offering Full Set of Car Pricing, Spec Data to Web Developers
Edmunds.com announced Thursday that it is now providing the online applications community its full database of vehicle specifications and pricing.
By releasing this application programming interface, developers of online vehicle-shopping applications can gain full access to the tools that can help them craft and bolster their products.
“This is essentially the same API used by our own product development team to access vehicle data for the Edmunds.com website as well as our mobile sites and apps, and we are excited to see what can be created by the larger developer community,” stated Philip Potloff, Edmunds’ chief information officer.
“In preparing for this launch our developers built several experimental mash-ups of data from the Edmunds.com API and other third-party APIs, and it proved that there are a lot of compelling experiences that can be created to improve the automotive consumer experience,” he added.
The initial release will include pricing and specs for 36,500 trim variations on more than 6,000 models. The model-years will start at 1990 and go through this current year.
Mashery.com is teaming up with Edmunds in facilitating data access.
“Developers interested in learning more can checkout a sample pricing widget and API directory on our developer portal,” stated Ismail Elshareef, Edmunds’ director of open platform initiatives.
