DETROIT -

Saab Automobile Parts North America announced a new program Thursday that may give owners of 2010 and 2011 model-year Saab vehicles some added peace of mind in the wake of Saab Automobile AB’s bankruptcy in Sweden.

Through Saab Secure, owners of these vehicles will be offered a Limited Lifetime Protection Plan on internal engine components at no initial cost. Here’s how it works.

Owners of 2010 and 2011 model-years can bring their vehicle in for a free initial oil change and service, which includes engine oil additives from BG Products.

Once the customer has done this, the Limited Lifetime Protection Plan backed by BG kicks in. And the plan will remain in effect, provided that the owner services their vehicles within the required intervals at a Saab Official Service Center.

What’s more, Saab Secure also offers various vehicle service contacts with extended coverage levels on 2010 model-year units up to 70,000 miles.

The coverage plans range from Basic Care powertrain coverage to Premier comprehensive component coverage. Customers can select terms ranging from one to five years from date of contract purchase.

“Just over a year ago the news was not good. Saab owners in North America and globally had just learned of the bankruptcy of one of the world's most cherished automobile brands,” stated Tim Colbeck, president and chief executive officer of SPNA.

“Today they are hearing some good news about parts, service and vehicle coverage. It is news Saab owners and the Saab network deserve, and I'm pleased to announce our new programs and partner companies, who are all committed to serving Saab owners in North America,” he added.

This announcement comes less than a month after SPNA entered a Warranty Services Agreement with General Motors. Per the agreement, SPNA can provide warranty administration and related services through its network of Warranty Service Providers for Saab vehicles from 2009 and earlier that are still covered by the GM limited warranty.
