ATLANTA and ARLINGTON, Texas -

For those looking to nominate an independent dealer to receive special recognition from their peers for their efforts in the community, time is running out.

The nomination period for the 2012 National Independent Automobile Dealers Association//Manheim Community Service Award ends April 1, which is less than two weeks away.

Each year the program spotlights a member of the NIADA who has displayed remarkable commitment to giving back to the community.

Nominations can be done by a variety of parties, but the nominee must, however, be a NIADA member in good standing.

“Independent dealerships across the nation contribute everyday to their communities, but often go unrecognized for their community support,” NIADA stated. “While many participate through special projects, others provide sponsorships, financial contributions, or lead innovative community improvement activities.
This award was created to honor those independent dealerships.”

This year’s recipient will be recognized during the Leadership Awards Banquet on June 13 at the association’s annual conference. The winner receives an award presented by Manheim, as well as a $5,000 donation to the dealership’s chosen charity.

Receiving the honors in 2011 was Chacon Autos. This Dallas dealership family was spotlighted for the help it has given an area elementary school over the years.

That school, Martha Turner Reilly Elementary, then received the $5,000 donation from the dealership during a ceremony to kick off the 2011–2012 school year. Attending the event were its students, teachers and administration.
