McLEAN, Va. —  NADA University is kicking off a series of four on-site management seminars for dealers early next month that focus on fixed operations and financial management.

These week-long sessions — which are part of NADA University's NADA-ATD Learning Hub component — will be held at the headquarters of the National Automobile Dealers Association at 8400 Westpark Drive in McLean, Va.

They will take place on the third-floor Academy classroom.

The first of these workshops, Advanced Service Management, will be held April 5-9. On Monday through Thursday of that week, the program will run from 8 a.m. (EST) to 4 p.m., and then on Friday, it will go from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Leading the seminar will be NADA Academy instructor Bob Atwood. The workshop will focus on "Delivering powerful and proven techniques for service managers and staff to increase gross and net profit in the service department, boost the effectiveness of service advisors, and create a 'leader,' not just a 'manager,' in service operations."

Continuing on, the other three workshops are as follows:

—Advanced Manage by the Numbers. George Grabowski, a NADA Academy instructor, will lead the sessions, which will focus on "Training for GMs, controllers and staff to develop strong processes for collecting cash in a timely manner; increase volume and inventory turns to have a positive impact on the bottom line; better evaluate receivables and inventories; use performance tools to identify opportunities and develop action plans to maximize them; and use expense tools to identify excesses on the manufacturer's financial statement."

It will be held from April 12 to April 16. It has the same daily time schedule as the first seminar.

—Advanced Parts and DMS Management. NADA Academy instructor Chris Bavis will lead the workshop, which concentrates on "providing parts managers and staff with the information they need to increase net profit through variable pricing; use the DMS statement and summary to monitor and increase profits; create a system of consistent functions for a high-impact first-time fill rate; and construct the dealership's parts inventory scoreboard to record improvements."

It will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day from June 14 to June 18.

—Advanced Heavy-Truck Service Management. Along with Atwood, Allen Phibbs — who is a certified public accountant and professional advisor with Keith Ely & Associates — will lead this workshop. It will delve into "Training designed to increase gross and net profit in the service department; boost the effectiveness of service advisors; and create a 'leader,' not just a 'manager,' in service operations."

It will be held from Aug. 23 through Aug. 27. As far as the time schedule, the seminar runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Thursday of that week, and then runs 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday.

The fee for each of these four seminars is $1,850 per person, and this does not include travel-related costs.
