OnStar Gives Families the Chance to Follow Santa’s Christmas Eve Trek
As Christmas Eve rolls around and parents struggle to get their children to fall asleep amid excitement about Santa’s arrival, they might just be able to tell their kids the exact whereabouts of Ole’ St. Nick before finishing up the wrapping and setting out the cookies and milk.
OnStar has joined in the holiday fun and will be providing updates on Father Christmas’ whereabouts, starting at 7 a.m. EST on Christmas Eve.
Starting that morning, OnStar advisers will provide specific location-based updated on Santa’s annual trek around the world.
What do they base their information on? OnStart has collaborated with the North American Aerospace Defense Command and will be basing their predications on the organization’s data.
“NORAD uses its North Warning Radar System, geo-synchronous satellites with infrared sensors and other technologies to monitor Santa’s Christmas Eve travels and share the information with children and families around the world,” company officials explained.
All vehicle owners have to do it press their OnStar button and request a “Santa Update.” The service will be available until 5 a.m. Christmas morning — for those parents who didn’t succeed in getting their little ones to bed.
Commenting on the holiday offering, Terry Inch, OnStar vice president of sales, marketing and business development, said, “We see this holiday tradition as staying true to keeping subscribers connected in ways they never thought possible.
“We know many of our customers will be glad to know Santa’s location information is just one blue button press away.”
One OnStar subscriber expressed his enthusiasm for what the company hopes will become a holiday tradition.
"Learning where Santa was throughout the evening last year made my 4-year-old, Ashley, giggle every time,” said Ryan Edward, an OnStar subscriber.
“It’s a great way to keep the kids entertained while traveling to family and friend’s homes,” he added.
And individuals without an OnStar subscription can join in the fun, as well.
