POADA Webinar Offers Dealers Detailed Inventory Recommendations
CARY, N.C. — Dealers and used-car managers who missed the chance to listen in and ask questions to a trio of wholesale market experts about how new-vehicle conditions are spilling over into the pre-owned space should not be frustrated.
An archived copy of Tuesday's Pre-Owned LIVE, a monthly series hosted by the Pre-Owned Automobile Dealers Alliance, is now available.
The hour-long Webinar included executives from Black Book, Manheim and SmartAuction, as well as hundreds of dealers and lot management personnel.
Bob Taar, the U.S. director of sales at SmartAuction, started the session, which was titled, "New Models Put Pressure on Pre-Owned Pricing: Finding the Right Pre-Owned Inventory at the Right Price."
Taar emphasized that online auctions can provide dealers with the freshest inventory on the market. He recommended following the path of what 3,775 dealers did a year ago when they sold more than 67,000 vehicles through SmartAuction.
Kevin Giddens, a senior editor with Black Book, joined the discussion next. Giddens made connections as to how slumping new-vehicle sales since 2006 now are affecting how the wholesale market looks today.
Finally, Amanda Savage, customer relations director of Manheim Online Solutions who also leads The Wholesale Institute, offered dealers some guidance about knowing where else to look for crucial inventory. Savage's suggestions ranged from looking at specialty sales to fostering relationships with fellow sellers who have similar inventory.
POADA executives also reiterated details about the CarMark Certified Pre-Owned Program. The initiative orchestrated with APCO/EasyCare can allow dealers in 41 states to stock their lots vehicles through this unique certification program that's not tied to a specific manufacturer, but can offer similar benefits.
