AutoNation has added to its board of directors with the appointment of Claire Bennett as an independent director, effective July 8.

The company called Bennett “a tenured global leader with an extensive customer experience, general management and consumer services background,” citing her experience as a senior executive “to help drive significant transformation in large, complex organizations through periods of dynamic industry, customer and technological change.”

Bennett has worked in multiple industries, including consumer packaged goods, technology, financial services and hospitality.

“We look forward to the experience and insight she will bring to the board,” AutoNation board chairman Rick Burdick said in a news release.

Bennett most recently served as global chief customer officer for Intercontinental Hotels Group and was a member of IHG’s executive committee. She was responsible for driving B2C/B2B customer experience and growth of the company’s portfolio of multinational brands.

Previous to that, she was general manager of global consumer travel and lifestyle for American Express, one of several senior executive roles she held with the company. She also currently serves on the board of Samsonite International.
