CarMax’s credentials as an employer are hard to argue with.

The national used-car retailer has added another accolade in that area this week, as Fortune magazine and Great Place To Work have named CarMax as one of the 100 Best Companies to Work For in 2025  — the 21st consecutive year it has earned that distinction.

In a message to the company’s associates, chief human resources officer Craig Cronheim said, “This remarkable achievement is a testament to your unwavering dedication to living our values and taking care of each other, our customers and communities.”

The Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For award focuses on how employees feel about their workplace, determined by Great Place To Work’s analysis of the anonymous survey responses of more than 1.3 million U.S. employees.

“When you measure trust, you uncover the potential that exists in an organization,” Great Place To Work CEO Michael C. Bush said. “Employees at companies on this list have higher levels of trust in their leaders and in their organization, unlocking their creativity, passion and resilience.”

During the past year, CarMax said, the company has been included among Fortune’s Best Workplaces in Retail, the American Opportunity Index’s Top 100 Employers of Choice, PEOPLE magazine’s Companies That Care, and Military Friendly’s Military Friendly Employers.

CarMax said its employee benefits include discounts on car purchases for staff members and their family members, immediate 401(k) eligibility with a 6% match on eligible contributions, wellness benefits such as gym discounts and free access to guided meditation provider Headspace, paid time off, a comprehensive medical plan, tuition reimbursement, adoption assistance, employee stock purchase plans and more.
