Car-shopping marketplace and dealer reputation site Cars.com honored more than 1,000 dealers throughout North America with its annual Dealer of the Year Awards.
The company said the winners were selected based on more than 1.3 million online consumer reviews submitted in 2024 according to drivers of repeat and referral business, including average star rating, total number of reviews and dealer response to those reviews.
“Local dealerships are the backbone of the automotive industry, which is why our annual Dealer of the Year Awards highlight those who put in the work to provide excellent consumer experiences,” Cars.com vice president of customer experience Jamie Oldershaw said. “With more than 13 million reviews on Cars.com, shoppers are able to select the best dealership to work with while local dealers and automakers leverage those valuable insights to improve operations and meet the needs of consumers.

Dealer of the Year honorees showed high levels of responsiveness and individual dealership employee accountability, Cars.com said. Nearly 90% of them actively responded to consumer reviews in 2024, compared to 45% of other dealerships, and almost 60% used Employee Profile Pages for their dealership staff. More than 200,000 dealership employees received more than 1.4 million individual ratings last year.
Cars.com also rated the overall reputation of brands, evaluating consumer feedback in six categories: pricing transparency, trade-in experience, transaction speed, financing experience, review responsiveness and vehicle inquiry responsiveness.
Using data from the past two years of consumer reviews, Cars.com gave the highest ratings to Subaru for mass-market brands and Acura and Volvo among luxury brands.
