AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -

Chrysler confirmed Wednesday an extensive recall involving Chrysler and Dodge minivans and Ram pickups.

The automaker explained it will conduct a voluntary safety recall of certain 2008 Chrysler Town & Country and 2008 Dodge Caravan and Grand Caravan minivans. Franchise dealers have been instructed to inspect and replace as necessary Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) drain hose grommets.

The OEM said some vehicles may have an improperly installed HVAC hose grommet that could cause moisture to collect on the floor and damage the airbag deployment module.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported and Chrysler confirms that approximately 367,350 vehicles are affected in this recall and asserted “an inadvertent airbag deployment could result in injury to the seat occupant in front of the deploying airbag and/or a vehicle crash.”

However, Chrysler stressed that it’s not aware of any accidents or fatalities resulting from this issue.

“Chrysler will inspect all potentially affected vehicles and replace the affected component as necessary. This will be completed at no cost to the consumer,” company officials stated.

Federal officials offered these minivan owners the chance to contact them directly about this recall by dialing (888) 327-4236 or visiting www.safecar.gov.

Ram Truck Recall

NHTSA officials indicated more than 76,000 Ram Trucks from the 2010 and 2011 model years equipped with a diesel engine and a hydroboost brake system are being recalled. They believe these trucks — built from March 2009 through October of this year — might have a power steering reservoir cap with excessive vent pressure levels.

This condition could result in brake pedals that are slow to return, according to NHTSA.

“Brake lights that are slow to extinguish could increase the risk of a crash,” federal officials declared.

Chrysler indicated these truck owners can go to a franchise dealership and have the power steering reservoir cap replaced for free. Owners also can contact Chrysler at (800) 853-1403 for more information.
