Ford comes up big in CPO Value awards
Ford was the big winner in Vincentric’s 12th annual Best Certified Pre-Owned Value in America Awards.
And when I say big, I mean big — as in trucks and vans.
Ford owns the CPO awards for the largest vehicles, claiming the Best CPO Value Truck Brand for the fifth time and the Best CPO Value Van Brand for the ninth consecutive year.
The awards are based on Vincentric’s statistical analysis to determine which vehicles had lower than expected ownership costs given their market segment and price.
The analysis covered more than 18,000 vehicle configurations using eight cost factors — depreciation, fees and taxes, financing, fuel, insurance, maintenance, opportunity cost and repairs — assuming each would be driven 15,000 miles annually over five years.
Ford earned eight model-level awards, sweeping all four truck segments, taking three of the five van awards and adding the large SUV award with the Expedition.
The F-series pickups — including the F-150 Lightning — took top honors in the full-size 1/2-ton, 3/4-ton, and 1-ton pickup segments, and the Maverick Hybrid won among small/midsize pickups.
In the van category, the Transit Connect won in both the small commercial passenger van and small commercial cargo van segments — its eighth consecutive victory in the passenger segment and fifth in the cargo segment — and the E-Transit 350 was the top large cargo van.
Nissan also took two brand-level awards, in the Passenger Car and SUV Brand categories, on the strength of four model wins: the Versa for subcompacts, Nissan Z for sports cars, Kicks for subcompact SUVs and the Ariya for compact SUVs.
BMW took the prize for Best CPO Value Luxury Car Brand and Cadillac won Best CPO Value Luxury SUV Brand. BMW was boosted by wins from the Z4 in the luxury convertible segment and the i7 won for luxury large sedan. For Cadillac’s Lyriq was named the best CPO value among luxury midsize SUVs.
Several vehicles extended long model-level winning streaks. The Toyota Avalon notched its 11th consecutive victory for large sedan, the Subaru Outback won its eighth in a row among midsize SUVs, the Lexus RC Series took its fourth consecutive luxury coupe award and its sixth overall, while the Subaru Legacy and Volvo V60 earned their fifth awards.
“The Vincentric Best CPO Value in America Awards are designed to take the guesswork out of shopping for a certified pre-owned vehicle,” Vincentric president David Wurster said. “Many consumers choose the route of a CPO vehicle to save money on the initial purchase price while still having the peace of mind of a manufacturer warranty. However, they may not know which models can continue to save them money into the future.
“Our awards can be used as a guideline to help consumers have confidence that their next vehicle purchase will deliver strong value, low ownership costs, or both.”
