Sonic Automotive has taken the old saying that everything’s bigger in Texas to heart.

The dealership group announced it has moved its EchoPark Houston Southwest Freeway used-car store to a new, larger “experience center” in suburban Stafford, Texas.

Having outgrown its original location, which opened in 2020, the dealership now operates from a new 16,825-square-foot facility that opened Monday, with space for more inventory — 50% of which, Sonic said, is priced at less than $25,000.

“Our teammates are excited to continue serving residents in Houston and the surrounding area from this new location,” Sonic chairman and CEO David Smith said, “providing a wide selection of high-quality pre-owned vehicles supported by our world-class guest experience.”

As part of the grand opening celebration, EchoPark is offering no payments for 90 days

EchoPark has been Sonic’s most successful segment over the past 18 months. Since the company downsized the used-car operation in June 2023, EchoPark has taken off, reporting record gross profits in each of the past three quarters.

Sonic acquires N.C. motorcycle dealerships

Sonic Automotive added to its powersports division with the acquisition of Motorcycles of Charlotte and Motorcycles of Greensboro in North Carolina from Mark and Gail Engel, according to Performance Brokerage Services, which brokered the deal.

Sonic established its powersports division in 2023 following the acquisition of 13 dealerships in South Dakota and Texas, including stores offering the Harley-Davidson, Indian Motorcycle, Polaris, Can-Am, Kawasaki, Suzuki, BMW and Ducati brands.

Its latest purchase gives Sonic a foothold in the Southeast region.

The Engels, along with partner Tony Ryan, acquired Motorcycles of Charlotte more than 20 years ago. It began as a BMW dealership but soon added other European motorcycle brands, including Ducati, Triumph and Royal Enfield. In 2010, the store expanded into a new 19,000-square-foot facility, and in 2019 the Engels acquired Motorcycles of Greensboro.

“Sonic Automotive was an ideal candidate for taking over my stores and taking care of my employees and customers for years to come,” Mark Engel said in a news release.
