IRVINE, Calif. -

The used-car market saw increased interest in a somewhat unusual segment in June, according to the latest Kelley Blue Book Hot Used Car Report: Hybrids.

With gas prices holding at relatively steady rates for the month of June, price drops in hybrids are credited for a 4.1 percent growth in shopping activity on KBB.com, month-over-month.

KBB’s Arthur Henry, manager of market intelligence and market analyst, noted that used-car shopping activity overall on the site leaned toward vehicles offering fuel efficiency.

Segments showing the greatest activity growth for June, in addition to hybrids, were compact crossovers at 2.9 percent and subcompact cars at 2.7 percent, vehicles traditionally considered as gas savers by consumers.

One compact crossover, the 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, saw a surge of interest in KBB.com shopping activity with a month-over-month share increase of 32.5 percent. KBB officials said the increase came shortly after information was released on the redesigned 2014 Outlander.

Other specific vehicles showing shopping activity growth for June include the 2007 Saab 9-3, at 28.4 percent, and the 2008 Porsche 911 at 25.2 percent.

KBB’s top 10 models in shopping growth activity also include cars from the Nissan, Infiniti and Toyota brands; Toyota models actually took four spots on the top 10 list.
