CENTREVILLE, Va. -

Carfax has launched a free service that allows car owners to track service history and make vehicle maintenance easier.

Through myCARFAX, car owners receive automatic service alerts and get critical information about open safety recalls reported for their car.

Consumers can create a free myCARFAX account through a mobile app for iPhone and Android products as well as through www.mycarfax.com.

"Keeping your vehicle well maintained can improve your resale value and keep your family safer," said Larry Gamache, communications director at Carfax. "Staying on top of what maintenance your car needs and when can be complicated, and keeping track of it all is a huge hassle.

"Now, myCARFAX does the work for you. Your car's service history is automatically stored in one place whenever you visit any of the 26,000 service locations that are partnered with Carfax."

Additionally, there is a recommended maintenance schedule that shows owners the service they need to have taken care of at given mileage points. Through myCARFAX, users can find Carfax-partnering ships in their area.

"A car is one of the biggest purchases most of us will make in our lives," continued Gamache. "Carfax is working hard to help everyone keep their cars well-maintained and our highways safer."
