Rental car giant Hertz has partnered with UVeye to use its artificial intelligence-powered automated vehicle inspection technology at its airport locations.
UVeye said Hertz said the partnership is designed to “upgrade the way it checks vehicles between rentals” by using the drive-through AI system rather than relying entirely on manual inspections.
The new system will debut at Hertz’s location at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, with more locations to be added throughout the year.
“With millions of customers and over 100 years of service around the world, we’re continually focused on transforming every aspect of our company, and that includes how we maintain our vehicles,” Hertz executive vice president of technical operations Mike Moore said. “We are excited to partner with UVeye to bring efficiency and greater accuracy to our maintenance process so we can focus on our vehicles being ready when and where our customers want them.”
In a post on its website, UVeye pointed out the time crunch rental companies have to inspect and clean vehicles before turning them around for the next customer, which leaves room for things to get missed, as well as the subjectivity of manual inspections, which can vary based on conditions.
UVeye’s high-res cameras and AI are designed to scan the full vehicle, including the undercarriage, tires and exterior, in a few seconds as it drives through the system, creating better visibility into vehicle condition, less time on manual walkarounds and reliable data.
The company said the system will help Hertz speed up the return and pickup experience while improving trust and transparency, with inspections backed by visuals and data rather than memory or notes.
“Hertz is setting a new standard for vehicle maintenance and fleet management in the rental industry,” UVeye CEO and co-founder Amir Hever. “Our AI-driven inspection systems complement manual checks with consistent, data-backed assessments completed in seconds.”
