Privacy4Cars has updated its Vehicle Privacy Report to make it easier for vehicle owners to take control of their vehicle data.

The privacy-tech company said the changes to its consumer website now give users more informed choices and greater power to demand better protections.

When consumers run a free Vehicle Privacy Report, they will be prompted with new options to file privacy requests based on their VIN and geography, allowing them to self-submit privacy requests, contact local government or to appoint Privacy4Cars as their agent for free.

Through the website, Privacy4Cars shares its database to show users who to contact and how to place privacy requests, follow up by phone and leave feedback for the area if their residence including all U.S. states and Canadian provinces. It also gives site visitors an easy way to advocate for greater vehicle privacy with its new “Make Your Voice Heard” tool, which provides a way to share their experience and concerns with relevant government officials based on the user’s legal jurisdiction — and offers guidance on how to fill out online forms and talk to officials.

More than 600,000 consumers worldwide have used the Vehicle Privacy Report to inform them about the personal data practices of manufacturers, lenders, insurers and dealerships, as well as the privacy history of their specific VIN, Privacy4Cars said, with 1 in 10 of them appointing Privacy4Cars to file opt-out requests on their behalf.

“Our journey supporting those consumers taught us even more support, education and solutions are needed,” Privacy4Cars CEO and founder Andrea Amico said. “We used our experience filing tens of thousands of requests across companies and geographies to create comprehensive tools, links and guides that streamline and make it easier for consumers to take action and for companies to respond and be directly accountable to individuals who buy, finance and insure vehicles.

“And we’re doing all of this for free while offering more privacy-by-design features. If you own a car, going to Vehicle Privacy Report is the best use of a few minutes to make a difference for yourself and other drivers.”
