SEATTLE -

Got a customer who is unsure about buying a used electric vehicle due to uncertainty about the battery life?

Recurrent, which analyzes EV battery health, says it can help.

On Tuesday, the company released what it calls the “first-ever” EV battery guides that consumers can use to gauge the battery health of a pre-owned EV.

The first vehicles to be analyzed through these guides are the Tesla Model 3 and the Chevrolet Bolt.

“With the used electric car market in its early days, consumers previously did not have a way to compare battery life across electric vehicles, as replacing or fixing the batteries is costly,” the company said in a news release.

“Recurrent’s electric vehicle shopping guides break down key information for consumers and industry professionals to get a better understanding of how age and temperature and mileage impact each model’s range.”

Scott Case is the co-founder and chief executive officer of Recurrent. In the release, he said: “Our goal with this information is to give people the confidence to purchase a pre-owned electric vehicle.

“Everyone has owned a smartphone long enough to know that the battery wears down over time, and there’s a fear of the unknown when it comes to used EV batteries,” Case said.

The data Recurrent gathers comes from more than 4,000 EV drivers who volunteer to provide information on general location, range, odometer and charge levels. Recurrent collects such details three times daily.

On its website, Recurrent said it aims to "more transparency and confidence in pre-owned electric car transactions" in hopes of driving further EV adoption.

Case joined the Auto Remarketing Podcast last month to share how the company goes about doing just that. Plus, we discuss the fastest-selling used EVs, the infrastructure still needed in the pre-owned EV market and much more.
