McKINNEY, Texas — The owner of two franchise dealerships in McKinney, which is north of Dallas, is out to prove he can take the heat — literally.

Beginning Monday, Chris Godwin, who owns Nissan of McKinney and recently acquired McKinney Buick GMC, will spend six days on the roof of his Nissan dealership. The campaign is meant not only to draw attention to the stores, but also raise awareness of proper safety practices during extremely hot weather conditions.

Dealership management explained that although Godwin will have a tent overhead, he will otherwise be exposed to the heat and elements. Godwin will be equipped with a computer and cell phone in order to maintain dealership operations.

Godwin's experiences also can be seen through a live Web camera that is intended to document his entire experience, which is scheduled to wrap up on July 31.

"Originally this began as a sales challenge to the sales staff of Nissan of McKinney and McKinney Buick GMC," dealership officials explained.

"As more thought was given to the safety of six days on the roof, it turned into a campaign to help educate Colin County residents on staying safe during the dreaded heat in the summers of north Texas," they continued.

According to the forecast available at Weather.com, the conditions during Godwin's rooftop stay are expected to be sunny during the day with temperatures rising to at least 94 degrees.

The dealerships are located 3800 South Central Expressway in McKinney, what local residents know as the Big Corner at 75 and 121.
