HERNDON, Va. -

In separate campaigns, two foreign automakers are recalling a pair of 2011 models.

The larger of the two comes from Volkswagen of America, which announced Monday it’s recalling 71,043 Jettas in the U.S. and another 19,496 Jettas in Canada. The units are being summoned in order to reconfigure a wiring layout associated with the anti-theft alarm system and horn.

The company insisted no injuries or accidents have been reported as a result of this condition.

Officials indicated the recall affects sixth generation Jetta sedan vehicles built between March of 2010 and March of this year.

VW noted affected owners will be notified via first class mail regarding the corrective measures and anticipated repair timeline.

In the meantime, the OEM said customers with questions or concerns can contact Volkswagen Customer Care at (800) 822-8987.

Honda Recalls 2011 Odyssey

In another announcement, American Honda revealed it will voluntarily recall 2,800 model-year 2011 Odyssey vehicles in the U.S. to replace the side window glass in one or both of the front doors.

Honda confirmed this recall does not include any units in Canada.

The manufacturer indicated that it’s taking this step because there is a potential for one or both windows to become detached from the window regulator, causing the window to become inoperative and preventing it from being rolled up or down.

In the worst case, officials believe the window may bind and shatter onto the occupants. However, they stressed no crashes or injuries have been reported related to this defect.

Honda is instructing all owners of affected vehicles to take their units to an authorized franchise dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from the company. The OEM intends to begin notification in the middle of April.

In addition to contacting customers by mail, these vehicle owners can determine if their vehicles require repair by going online to www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (800) 999-1009, and selecting option No. 4.

“When Honda identifies concerns of this nature, nothing is more important to the company than fulfilling our obligation and responsibility to alert our customers,” company officials reiterated.
