SANTA MONICA, Calif. -

In what is typically a busy holiday for car shopping, dealers this upcoming Labor Day weekend may find a particularly strong swell of traffic at their stores on Saturday.

TrueCar said today that Saturday will be the month’s most ideal day for buying a car, based on possible discounts off MSRP.

The company looked at the 31 days starting Aug. 15 and going through Sept. 14. In that time span, Saturday was expected to have the highest average discount (8.22 percent). Based on TrueCar’s chart, Sept. 7 wasn’t far behind, either.

The company had projected that Aug. 22 was going to be the least ideal day to buy, with average discounts at just 6.17 percent.

Moving along, the firm also shared some of the cash deals available for 2011 and 2012 model-year units — which are seeing discounts as high as 21 percent, approximately — as well as finance and lease deals on the market.
