Turns out, the site found consumer vehicle buying habits vary greatly depending on where they reside.

For example, TrueCar.com discovered, eight of the top 10 vehicles sold on the East and West Coast were foreign vehicles. The only two domestic models that made the top 10 were the Ford F-Series and Chevrolet Silverado trucks.

In the Midwest, the site found buyers preferred domestic vehicles, as seven of the top 10 selling vehicles were domestic models.

Meanwhile in Texas, analysts determined five of the 10 vehicles sold were large trucks with the Ford F-Series, Chevrolet Silverado and Dodge Ram leading the way.

“The differences in buyer behavior based on location can be dramatic,” conceded Jesse Toprak, vice president of industry trends and insights at TrueCar.com.

“This data shows that the car is a reflection of not just the person, but also where they live,” Toprak added. “It is fascinating to see how tastes and needs change in each region.”

To illustrate the differences in buying habits, TrueCar.com chose four states from different regions and provided the top vehicles sold in 2010 along with current best local price and current discount from MSRP.
