CarMax Kicks off Monthlong Volunteer Efforts
RICHMOND, Va. — Tuesday marked the beginning of CarMax Cares Month, an endeavor where company associates support the communities where they live and work.
CarMax indicated that its associates are volunteering in teams throughout June at several nonprofit organizations such as Boys & Girls Clubs, the Ronald McDonald House and the American Cancer Society.
Beyond those specific organizations, CarMax said its associates also plan to work at animal shelters, help at food banks and read to local children, as well as provide summer camp assistance.
Executives also mentioned the CarMax Foundation's standard Volunteer Team-Builder Program grants $500 to participating nonprofit organizations. They pointed out the foundation is doubling grants to $1,000 for the non-profits where associates volunteer in June.
"CarMax teams are passionate about having a positive impact on their communities," explained Dodie Fix, president of the CarMax Foundation and assistant vice president of procurement.
"Volunteers get to know each other outside of a work environment while making a lasting impression on local nonprofit organizations," Fix added.
And new this year, the CarMax Foundation has introduced a CarMax Cares Community Service Award.
Officials revealed the award will be given to associates who go above and beyond in their commitment to volunteering in the local community, either through leading CarMax philanthropic efforts or through their personal dedication to local charities. Winners will be announced in the fall with the CarMax Foundation making a grant of $5,000 to an eligible charity of their choice.
