Carvana launches 4th auction-recon Megasite, first on East Coast
Kansas City. Houston. Las Vegas.
And now: Boston.
Carvana announced last week that it is planning for an auction and reconditioning Megasite at its ADESA Boston location, which will include Carvana’s Inspection and Reconditioning Center (IRC) capabilities at the existing site along with maintaining all digital and in-lane auction operations.
ADESA Boston, located near downtown Framingham, Mass., will “anchor the growth of Carvana’s retail and wholesale operations in the area and enhance the company’s offering for both retail and wholesale customers,” the company said in a release.
The auction has been operating for decades and covers more than 100 acres, with more than 13,000 parking spaces. Carvana anticipates the Megasite transition will eventually create about 200 new jobs in the area.
The company has already started hiring new IRC associates for the facility, which will be its fourth Megasite.
Carvana launched its first Megasite at ADESA Kansas City in August, followed by the second at ADESA Houston in September. Last month, it launched a Megasite at ADESA Las Vegas.
At the Las Vegas, Kansas City and Houston locations, Carvana’s same-day delivery was added a month after the Megasite came to town.
“We’re excited to continue to strengthen our network by bringing Carvana Inspection and Reconditioning Center capabilities to ADESA Boston,” Brian Boyd, Carvana’s senior vice president of inventory, said in a release.
“This integration will not only grow Carvana’s total reconditioning capacity, but also drive significant benefits for local retail and wholesale customers,” Boyd said. “With Carvana IRC capabilities on site at ADESA Boston, local retail customers will enjoy car buying options with faster delivery times and local wholesale customers will have access to a more comprehensive auction offering.”
The addition of IRC capabilities can boost ADESA Boston’s recon capacity and thereby increase vehicle selection, the company said.
More retail inventory available in a new metro area can also improve the efficiency of Carvana’s recon and fulfillment network, while also providing retail customers the chance to get vehicles delivered the same or next day.
Meantime, ADESA Boston’s wholesale customers will continue to utilize the full in-lane/online auction capabilities in addition to stronger recon capabilities, the company said.
