Cox Automotive took another step toward the future of its reconditioning operations last week with the grand opening of its newest auto tech training center at Manheim Chicago.

The facility is Manheim’s fifth ATTC, joining training centers at Manheim locations in Southern California, Central Florida, New Jersey and Dallas. Cox announced plans to open the new center in March.

Some 50 Cox Automotive leaders, employees and technicians attended the ribbon-cutting event, which included a training simulation led by ATTC trainer Chad Naylor showing an overview of the classroom and hands-on shop floor training.

With the evolution of digital retailing, mobility and electric vehicles, Cox Automotive said, reconditioning operations is one of the fastest growth areas in its Manheim auctions — and throughout the auto industry.

The company said Manheim technicians handle more than 3.5 million vehicles annually.

“Our clients look to us to provide the highest quality reconditioning talent, facilities and services to support their changing vehicle and business needs,” Manheim senior vice president of physical services and auctions Alan Lang said. “Our fifth auto tech training center at Manheim Chicago is helping us position our reconditioning operations for future growth while also addressing the industry’s skilled-labor shortage.”
