McConkey Auction Group’s signature event was pretty sweet.

Rock band Sugar Ray made sure of that as the headliner of DAA Northwest’s annual Rock & Roll Sale, held July 17-18 at the MAG-owned auction in Spokane, Wash.

The band, led by frontman Mark McGrath, entertained a crowd of 2,100 invited guests with their ’90s hits and cover songs in a Wednesday night private party and concert.

That morning, DAA Northwest opened the event with a sale featuring fleet and dealer vehicles that ended with a strong 85% conversion rate.

The next day, dealers returned to the lanes for more consignment. For the two-day event, 66% of the 2,900 vehicles offered were sold.

“We witnessed synergy between the enthusiasm in the lanes and the energy of the concert,” DAA Northwest general manager Collin McConkey said in a news release. “The Rock & Roll Sale isn’t just an event – it is a testament to the relationships we’ve built with our customers and industry friends.

“It has become synonymous with our brand and culture.”

The event also included a visit from Auction Academy’s Class 8, as 33 students joined the academy’s staff on site to observe and learn as part of its partnership with MAG and the auction industry.

“The Rock & Roll Sale allowed our students to experience one of the auction industry’s premier events,” Auction Academy president Penny Wanna said. “The energy and excitement of this legendary event served as a demonstration of the vibrancy of our industry.”
