Women in Remarketing: Christina Young of CarMax
Auto Remarketing is recognizing the 2022 Women in Remarketing honorees in the May issue of the magazine, and will be posting Q&As with each of these outstanding leaders on the website.
First up is Christina Young, who is director of logistics development at CarMax.
Auto Remarketing: What is the top trend you’re watching in remarketing/wholesale automotive this year?
Christina Young: One of the biggest trends we are seeing is the increased interest and demand for used electric and hybrid vehicles. While interest has been growing over the last couple of years, the high gas prices have elevated the interest level even more. I anticipate this upward trend will continue.
AR: How has technology/innovation impacted your specific area of remarketing/wholesale the most?
Young: This industry is constantly evolving, and I think the rapid scaling of virtual/online solutions due to COVID has only fueled that even further. Consumer preferences continue to change, and CarMax is well-positioned to meet them by having both a brick-and-mortar and online/digital presence. CarMax offers a truly personalized experience with the option for customers to do as much, or as little, online and in-store as they want.
AR: What piece of career advice would you have for someone new to the industry?
Young: Be curious and don’t be afraid to ask questions. I learned so much by simply asking “why.” When you are starting out you may be reluctant to speak up or ask questions, but that truly is the best way to learn about your department, company, and field, as well as about the positions held by other associates and colleagues. Being a lifelong learner who asks questions — and listens and learns from others — pays tremendous dividends throughout your career. Also, be sure to build relationships with your associates, customers, suppliers, and vendors. It makes the journey truly enjoyable.
AR: What is your proudest moment/accomplishment, career-wise?
Young: My team members have always been my proudest accomplishment. I’ve had the privilege of managing many associates over the years and being part of their journey. Supporting someone in their career is so rewarding, and watching them grow and develop has been the highlight of my career.
