WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. -

Dealership managers who want more analysis about 2008 model-year vehicles can obtain it this week. J.D. Power and Associates plans to unveil the 2011 Vehicle Dependability Study on Thursday.

Firm analysts explained this study measures problems reported by more than 50,000 original owners of 2008 model-year cars and light trucks. They said the study covers 202 specific problem symptoms grouped into eight major vehicle systems.

J.D. Power mentioned study results include industry insights, model rankings in each of the car and light-truck segments and full nameplate rankings.

J.D. Power reiterated that it measures vehicle quality across the entire spectrum of the ownership experience.

“Quality includes two dimensions: things gone wrong and things gone right,” analysts pointed out.

J.D. Power also compiles the Initial Quality Study (IQS), which measures new-vehicle quality after 90 days of ownership, while VDS measures problems after three years of ownership.

The firm also noted its Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout Study (APEAL) examines things gone right after 90 days of ownership.
