NADA Pinpoints Monthly Used-Car Department Sales Figure for Average Franchised Dealer
The average franchised dealer began 2013 with a monthly used-car department sales figure just shy of $1 million, according to the latest NADA Dealership Financial Profile.
Specifically, the used-car department of a franchised store, on average, pulled in sales of $991,916 during January. This marked a 5.4-percent hike from January 2012, according to the data.
This figure represented about a third (32.9 percent) of total sales for a dealership. A year earlier, that proportion was 34.8 percent.
The average retail used-vehicle selling price was $17,541, a 2.1-percent increase. Average retail gross profit on these cars was $2,262, a 4.7-percent uptick from a year earlier.
Looking at a few other metrics, service and parts department sales averaged $406,794 (up 6.1 percent). This represented 13.5 percent of total sales, versus 14.2 perecent in January 2012.
Meanwhile, average new-car department sales climbed 17.6 percent year-over-year to $1.62 million. This figure was 53.7 percent of total sales, up from 51 percent.
Total sales for the average franchised dealer came in at $3.02 million, an 11.7-percent increase from January 2012.
On its website, NADA indicated: “NADA Dealership Financial Profiles present a snapshot in time of the financial condition of the average new-car/new-truck dealer. The latest available report typically covers a time period approximately three months prior.”
