ATLANTA -

The larger certified pre-owned vehicles remained scarce this past month as dealers began wrapping up the summer seasons.

The rides that were the hardest to find in August were the CPO SUVs, particularly larger SUVs from Toyota and Chevrolet, according to the latest installment of vehicle scarcity data that is provided monthly to Auto Remarketing by AutoTrader.com.

The CPO Toyota Land Cruiser was the “big surprise,” the site said. This model showed up on the national list at No. 5 and in the top 10 lists of two designated market areas. It was the only non-luxury vehicle to make it onto the CPO national scarcity list.

The certified Land Crusier came in at No. 3 in New York (and it was not on the list in July) and at No. 1 in San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose (also not on that list in July).

The following CPO SUVs also proved hard to find.

Here’s the breakdown:

•    CPO Toyota Sequoia came in at No. 2 in Atlanta (which is up one spot from July), No. 10 in Boston (down four spots from July) and No. 1 in Washington D.C. (not on the list in that DMA in July).
•    CPO Chevrolet Tahoe came in at No. 9 in Boston (not on the list in that DMA in July).
•    CPO Chevrolet Suburban came in at No. 8 in Chicago (not on the list in that DMA in July).

AutoTrader.com share that CPO Jeep SUVs are also making a “small showing” across a few DMAs:

•    CPO Jeep Wrangler came in at No. 8 in Dallas-Ft. Worth (not on the list in that DMA in July).
•    CPO Jeep Compass came in at No. 3 in Houston (not on the list in that DMA in July).
•    CPO Jeep Grand Cherokee came in at No. 10 in San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose (holding steady with its position in July).

On the late-model side of things, there was a bit of movement in August, as many of the rides that proved scarcest in July dropped off the list.

Topping the national scarcity list for late-model cars in August was the Lotus Evora, which may not come as much of a surprise.

Next up was the Porsche Cayman, followed by the Audi S6, BMW M series, and the Chevrolet Caprice, respectively.
