Longhorns are pickups, Golden Bears are Teslas
If you’re reading this story on Friday afternoon, chances are, Auto Remarketing might have some competition for your attention.
Don’t worry, we get it. The NCAA Tournament is on.
While the bracket of a certain Senior Editor of this publication is already busted, we’re still having fun with this year’s tourney — and so too, it appears, are some of our friends in the auto industry.
Swapalease.com, for example, conducted a survey of more than 2,500 drivers that asked a series of basketball- and car-related questions.
Texas, nudging out Kentucky (10.08 percent) with 10.85 percent of the vote, was the NCAA team that most reminded fans of a pickup truck.
Seems appropriate.
Not surprisingly, California was dominant response (27.20 percent) when fans were asked to name the team reminding them of a Tesla. Duke was second at 15.60 percent, then a trio of Wildcats (Kentucky, Villanova and Arizona, respectively) rounded out the top five.
Perhaps not a good sign of their tournament longevity, Duke was the team that fans thought best resembled “a Dodge with too many miles on it,” getting 9.16 percent of the vote.
No luck for the Irish either, as Notre Dame got 7.17 percent and was second.
And in what has that same Senior Editor of this publication (and N.C. State alum) shaking his head, Duke (16.06 percent) and North Carolina (9.64 percent) reminded fans the most of a classic Corvette.
Lastly, when fans thought “stolen car,” they most often thought of Miami (13.83 percent). We’ll just leave that one alone.
On another hoops related note, Car Lister has gotten in on the action with the Car Lister Bracket Challenge. The company was giving away a voucher of up to $500,000 for a Lamborghini to the entrant with a perfect bracket.
As of 4 p.m. (EST) on Friday, there were five perfect brackets still alive, a Car Lister spokesperson said.
Car Lister is also giving out a $3,000 prize for the top score; $1,000 for second place; and $10 gas cards for the next 100 runners-up.
