WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. -

Crossover SUVs are primarily family cars, and what’s most important to families? Some would say dependability.

To show dealers what this segment’s customers should be looking for to find a safe, reliable ride, J.D. Power and Associates posted a list of 10 crossover SUV  models (2010 model-year) with the fewest owner-reported problems from its 2013 Vehicle Dependability study.

The list, revealed in a recent post on the J.D. Power "AutoMotion" blog,  includes luxury rides, such as the Lexus RX, to more rugged options, such as the Toyota highlander.

The annual Vehicle Dependability Study from J.D. Power measures problems reported by original owners of three-year-old vehicles that occurred during the year prior to the fielding of the study, the company explained.

And after the study closes, J.D. Power researchers gather and analyze the data, assigning each model that meets minimum sample-size criteria with a ranking based on the number of problems reported per 100 vehicles (PP100).

Below, crossover SUVs are listed in order starting with the highest-performing, most-dependable model:

Lexus RX
Toyota RAV4
Honda Accord Crosstour
Honda CR-V
Toyota Venza
Acura RDX
Toyota Highlander
Nissan Murano
Volvo XC70
Subaru Forester
