IRVINE, Calif. -

Gas and wholesale pre-owned prices are falling as car buying season gets underway — a winning combination for dealers.

And as the weather continues to warm as we approach summer, Kelly Blue Book’s manager of market intelligence and market analyst Arthur Henry said its “a good time to be a car enthusiast.”

In fact, on KBB’s latest Hot Use-Car Report, shopping interest increased for all performance vehicles this past month, according to Kbb.com shopper activity.

“From compact luxury cars to high-performance vehicles, share of shopping traffic has increases between 2.4 percent to 6.4 percent,” said Henry.

This may not come as a surprise to dealers, since seasonality plays a role in a consumer interest switch from utility vehicles  toward more performance-oriented vehicles, as it heats up outside.

That said, this trend “has been tempered in the past few years due to high gas prices,” Henry said. “Now that gas prices are not a major concern, a wide range of vehicles are popping up on the radars of shoppers.”

Specifically, the vehicles experiencing some of the biggest consumer interest increases are as follows:

Audi A4
BMW 1 Series
BMW 3 Series
Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Interestingly, Henry reported that the Pontiac Vibe has “piqued” shopper attention, as well.

“Owners rate this vehicle 9.2 out of 10 and praise the Vibe for its reliability and utility,” Henry said. “Owners also are aware that the Vibe is essentially the same vehicle as the Toyota Matrix, which is on the Corolla platform,” and the Vibe offers a cheaper option.

And as used supply continues to ramp up, used-vehicle values were down in nearly every segment in April, according to KBB’s Blue Book Used-Car Market Report.
