McLEAN, Va. -

NADA University, the education and training arm of the National Automobile Dealers Association, revealed Thursday its new NADA-ATD (American Truck Dealers) Academy director.

Chosen for the position is Allen Phibbs, who began his new duties Aug. 30. Phibbs replaces James Schoonover, who has been promoted to senior director of dealership operations for NADA.

Phibbs brings more than 15 years of auto industry experience to the post, as he formerly served as a professional adviser for the dealership management advisory firm KEA Advisors.

Phibbs has also been a  guest instructor for the ATD Academy since 1996.

Interestingly, Phibbs also graduated from ATD Academy in 2004, while working as the general manager at Truck Enterprises in Richmond, Va.

“The Academy has earned such an outstanding reputation in our industry, and I’m excited about the opportunity to help build on that foundation and keep the momentum moving forward,” Phibbs said.

“Growth is one of my themes, in order to accommodate the strong demand by dealerships for Academy programs. Most importantly, we always want to stay focused on doing everything we can to help the students and their dealerships succeed,” he continued.

John Lyboldt, vice president of dealership operations at NADA, also commented on the new hire, noting, “Not only is Allen among the most well-respected dealership management advisors in our industry, he also carries a wealth of knowledge about the Academy and its mission.

“We know from working closely with him that his leadership skills, industry expertise and teaching abilities are extraordinary. He will be a tremendous asset to our programs, and that will benefit everyone who participates,” Lyboldt  continued.
