AutoNation posted double-digit gains in retail new-vehicle sales during 2010 and closed the year on a high note, enjoying significant growth during December and in the fourth quarter.
Specifically, AutoNation dealers saw their retail new-vehicle sales climb 13 percent on a year-over-year basis during 2010.
Looking at the company’s three operating segments (domestic, import and premium luxury), the strongest growth was seen on the domestic side, as sales there climbed 22 percent.
Full-year premium luxury sales jumped 11 percent and there was 9-percent growth within the import segment.
Looking at December, in particular, AutoNation dealers moved 21,970 retail new vehicles during the month. This marked a 12-percent year-over-year gain, the company indicated.
Domestics, again, showed the most improvement, as their sales jumped 21 percent on a year-over-year basis to 6,517 vehicles sold.
Import sales climbed 10 percent from December 2009 to 11,566 units sold, while there were 3,887 premium luxury units moved during the month, a 2-percent hike.
Continuing on to share fourth-quarter data, AutoNation said it saw an overall year-over-year increase of 14 percent for retail new-vehicle sales.
Domestics showed the heftiest improvement (up 22 percent) and imports were next, as they improved 13 percent. Premium luxury sales showed a 4-percent year-over-year hike during the fourth quarter.
