FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -

AutoNation revealed Thursday that amid an October that saw the SAAR climb above the 13-million mark, the company’s new-car sales fared well this past month, too, with domestics even jumping by double digits.

The automotive retailer announced that its retail new vehicle unit sales stood at 18,530, marking a 6 percent increase year-over-year.

Delving into the sales results by segment, domestics saw significant gains this past month, with 5,813 units sold — up 12 percent as compared to October 2010.

Interestingly, the premium luxury market segment jumped by almost 30 percent. The company sold 3,921 luxury units, up 27 percent year-over-year.

According to the company’s report, imports was the only segment that fell, with 8,796 units sold, down 5 percent versus October 2010. This number is perhaps not surprising in light of the production struggles of many manufacturers, such as Honda and Toyota, due to the earthquake in Japan this past spring and the recent floods in Thailand.
