According to Experian’s State of the Automotive Finance Market report, Michigan continued to pace the nation during first quarter with 61.5% of new-vehicle financing originated in that state being a lease.

Two other states known for heavy leasing activity weren’t far off that mark, as Experian reported last week that 56.5% of new-vehicle financing originated during Q1 in New York was a lease, while New Jersey was right behind at 53.5%.

Experian also highlighted the top 10 new vehicles leased during the first quarter, reflecting how different the lease market is now compared to perhaps a decade ago.

A familiar model led the way with the Honda Civic topping the Q1 lease chart with 2.25% of the market, according to Experian data. Honda had three models among the top 10, helping the OEM capture an industry-leading 10.51% of the new-vehicle leasing market during the opening quarter of 2022.

Chevrolet and Ford each had two models among the top 10, which included their popular pickups. The top 10 rundown is as follows:

5. Chevrolet Silverado 1500: 1.82%
6. Toyota RAV4: 1.78%

9. Jeep Wrangler Unlimited: 1.61%
10. Ford Escape: 1.60%
