REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -
OPENLANE has teamed up with the National Independent Automobile Dealers Association for a new certified listing category within the online auction platform.
Officials believe the new offering will help to boost confidence among wholesale buyers, lift the price and pace of vehicle sales at auction and help dealers fetch higher prices on the retail side.
A NIADA-Certified “lane” is now available on openlane.com that can be utilized by all dealers. Vehicles featured on this listing are expected to meet all NIADA standards.
NIADA-Certified vehicles include a comprehensive limited warranty with coverage totaling 12 months/12,000 miles. Most vehicles made between 2001 and 2011 with 100,000 miles or less are eligible to be NIADA-Certified.

“This acknowledgment builds value for NIADA’s Certified Pre-Owned Program, but just as importantly, assures online buyers that they are buying a vehicle of quality,” stated Michael Linn, NIADA’s chief executive officer.

“Our relationship with OPENLANE reinforces that certified vehicles are worth more money in both the wholesale and retail marketplaces,” Linn added.
Ed Berkowitz, OPENLANE’s vice president of open auctions, added: “Certification programs are very important in any vehicle transaction process, especially with the online channel.
“Not only do they increase buying confidence, but they also enable dealers to command more money for the vehicles when selling via retail channels,” he continued. “We are excited to partner with NIADA to offer this important enhancement that we expect will increase sale prices and faster time to sale.”
National Auto Care administers the NIADA Certification program. Officials said an “A”-rated company insures the program.
