RDN’s May Analytics Update Confirms Rise in Recoveries
Recovery Database Network’s May Analytics Update showed both recovery volume and orders increased month-over-month.
Analysts indicated May recovery volumes increased 2 percentage points from April as the index reading moved up to 51 from 49. They added May recovery orders increased 3 percentage points from the previous month, pushing the index figure up to 56 from 53.
Looking at a comparison year-over-year, RDN discovered the volume of orders is higher (56 compared to 48 during May of last year) but recovery volumes are softer (51 versus 57).
Continuing on with their May report, analysts determined recovery volumes as a percentage of sales financed ended at an index level of 22 in May, which represents a 3 percentage point decrease from the prior month and the previous year.
RDN also mentioned FICO scores for new- and used-vehicles buyers experienced a year-plus plunge from a high in January 2010 with a recovery beginning in May of last year. However, what the company noticed for this past May represented a decrease from April.
RDN first began tracking all of this data in January 2009 as each index reading stood at 100.
Looking at the information based on geography, analysts determined Texas represented 11 percent of the nation’s total involuntary recoveries in May, producing a little less than 5,700. They added the top three states — Texas, California and Florida — represented 29 percent of the nation’s involuntary recoveries.
Among the top 20 largest cities, RDN indicated Chicago experienced the greatest actual volume increase during May while Philadelphia had the greatest relative volume increase, one of 12 metro areas to experience double-digit, month-over-month climbs.
In fact, all 20 cities experienced a rise in recoveries during May as compared to the previous month. Looking at the month-over-month comparisons from February, March and April, RDN discovered only a total of three cities had any increase at all during that span. That cluster included Philadelphia and Boston in February and Chicago in April.
Furthermore, the company’s data also showed Los Angeles has the great amount of recoveries year-to-date, a total of 12,462. RDN’s information confirmed Chicago was the only other city to have more than 10,000 through the first five months of the year as analysts pegged the figure at 11,477.
