Beggs: Yet Another Wholesale Decline for Both Cars & Trucks
Following a relatively unusual week when both car and truck values decreased — something that had not happened in four months — the wholesale market again saw softness within each of the two major vehicle categories, according to Black Book managing editor Ricky Beggs.
This time around, the change in car values was slightly moderate, as they fell just $1, compared to a $9 decrease the week before. Meanwhile, Black Book spotted declines in 12 of the 14 truck segments for the second week in a row. Overall, truck values dipped $34.
“The market this past week showed similar trends of the previous two weeks,” Beggs said in the latest Beggs on the Used Car Market video report.
Just two car segments were up in value, led by the premium sporty car segment climbing $26. Values for the entry sporty car segment increased $21.
However, Beggs noted that the $21 drop-off in upper midsize car values and the $14 slowdown for entry midsize cars counteracted those gains.
Moving over to trucks, he commented: “For the second consecutive week 12 of the 14 truck segments declined, and again, for the two more positive segments, it was only the compact pickups and the compact SUVs that increased by $43 and $11, respectively. This week the overall decline in the trucks was $34, just slightly less than the previous weeks change.”

Continuing on, Beggs also shared a bit about the company’s experience at the National Independent Auto Dealer Association Convention & Expo last week in Las Vegas.
“Freddy Hall and Tim West had great conversations with many of the leading independent dealers in the country throughout the week in our information booth and also in the educational panels discussing mobile solutions and how these great tools support your business,” he stated.
“Many who have yet to transition from print to mobile handheld applications were amazed at the simplicity and speed in looking up a vehicle value,” Beggs continued. “Now with vehicle history reports available from Carfax and Autocheck, one more step in getting complete information is right at your fingertips.”
