ATLANTA -

On Tuesday, Manheim tapped a replacement as the group vice president of Total Resource Auctions to replace Jamie Porter, the former president who retired last year.

Stepping into the role effective immediately is company veteran Bill Tiedemann.

In connection with the announcement, Manheim cited its 2011 Used Car Market Report, highlighting the supply of vehicles remarketed through salvage auctions is predicted to grow in the coming years. As a result, the company believes it has positioned itself to meet the needs of these customers by appointing Tiedemann to this position.

Manheim is asking Tiedemann to oversee sales, operations and business development for the increasingly important areas of insurance total loss, recovered theft, salvage, damaged, disabled and inoperable vehicles.

Tiedemann will be based out of Atlanta and will report to Mike Broe, executive vice president, Manheim’s U.S. operations. 

“During Jamie’s time at Manheim, he made valuable contributions in key areas such as sales, reconditioning and operations. These efforts, along with Bill’s dedication and commitment, have helped us significantly expand the reach and capacity of Total Resource Auctions,” Broe explained.

“Bill has put us on the path to becoming the top national provider in the salvage auction category, and we look forward to having him lead the charge as we move ahead,” Broe added.

A part of the Total Resource Auctions team since 2005, Tiedemann most recently served as vice president and general manager, overseeing numerous acquisitions and location openings.

Manheim recalled that Tiedemann joined the company back in 1989 as the national operations manager and has held a variety of managerial positions. In 1992, Tiedemann became vice president of special operations where he was responsible for reconditioning and a partnership with Ford.

In his subsequent role as vice president of auction services, executives pointed out Tiedemann was instrumental in launching Manheim’s Specialty and Total Resource Auctions business units. 

A 30-year auction industry veteran, Manheim mentioned Tiedemann is a former president of the Oregon Independent Automobile Dealers Association and the American Salvage Pool Association where he has also served on the board of directors and several key committees.
